Two routes for NE students
Management Quota
Private medical colleges fill 15–25% of MBBS seats through management quota. No domicile requirement — any Indian student can apply. Fees are regulated by State Fee Regulatory Committees (FRC). Admission is directly through the college, typically after NEET counselling rounds close.
Never pay above the FRC-approved fee. College agents cannot "guarantee" seats — only the college management can confirm admission. Insist on seeing the official FRC fee structure before paying anything.
NRI Quota
Colleges reserve 5% of seats for NRI and OCI applicants. Many NE families qualify without knowing it — if a parent, grandparent or sibling holds NRI/OCI status, you may be eligible. Fees are typically in USD/EUR but some colleges allow INR equivalent. Admission is through the college directly.
Verify NRI quota eligibility carefully. You need documentary proof of the qualifying relative's NRI/OCI status. The NEET score still applies but the cutoff for NRI quota is usually much lower than general category.
How to approach open state admissions
Check your NEET score first
For management quota, most colleges accept any NEET-qualified score. For NRI quota, the cutoff is typically lower than general category state quota. Run the Pathway Explorer to see where you stand.
Verify the FRC fee — never the agent fee
Every state has a Fee Regulatory Committee that publishes approved fee structures. Download the FRC order directly from the state DME website. Never pay above this figure regardless of what any agent or college says.
Contact the college admission office directly
Management quota applications go directly through the college. Call the admission cell, ask for the official brochure and fee structure, and verify the NMC recognition status at the NMC portal.
Get everything in writing before paying
Provisional admission letter, official fee receipt with college letterhead, FRC fee schedule reference — collect all documents before transferring any amount.
Important — NMC/MCC compliance
- Management quota seats are FRC-regulated. Fees above the FRC-approved rate are illegal.
- No agent, consultant or middleman can "guarantee" a seat. Only the college management can confirm admission.
- Always verify college NMC recognition at the NMC official portal before applying.
- This page provides general information only. Specific cutoffs and fees change each year — verify with the college directly.
