Admission Pathways

Multiple routes exist. North-East students often qualify for state quota and special category seats — check each pathway carefully.

AACCC — Central Ayush Counselling

AIQ seats in government Ayush colleges nationally

Verified

Ayush Admissions Central Counselling Committee (AACCC) conducts centralised counselling for BAMS, BUMS and BHMS in government Ayush colleges. Separate from MCC. Uses NEET UG scores for admission.

NE Advantage: NE students can participate in AACCC for government BAMS seats across India. Assam government Ayurvedic colleges also participate in AACCC for their AIQ component. Cutoffs for government BAMS through AACCC are generally more accessible than government MBBS through MCC.

State Quota — AYUSH State Counselling

State quota seats in NE government Ayurvedic colleges

Verified

Each NE state with BAMS colleges conducts its own state AYUSH counselling for domicile students. Assam has multiple government Ayurvedic colleges with state quota seats.

NE Advantage: Assam has government Ayurvedic colleges (including Basistha Government Ayurvedic College) with state quota seats for Assam domicile students. BAMS state quota cutoffs in Assam are generally accessible for students with qualifying NEET UG scores. Other NE states have limited BAMS government seat availability.

Management Quota — Private BAMS Colleges

Typically 50% of private Ayurvedic college seats

Reviewed

Private Ayurvedic colleges across Karnataka, Maharashtra and other states offer BAMS seats through Management Quota, allotted via state counselling alongside government quota seats rather than by applying directly to the college. These colleges are NCISM-approved. Fees are regulated by state-level fee regulatory committees.

NE Advantage: NE students without state quota BAMS access can pursue Management Quota BAMS in Karnataka or Maharashtra. Management Quota BAMS fees are significantly lower than Management Quota MBBS.

Career Scope

What you can do after completing BAMS.

Government AYUSH Service

BAMS graduates are eligible for Ayurvedic Medical Officer posts in state AYUSH departments. NE states — including Assam and Meghalaya — recruit AYUSH doctors for government AYUSH hospitals, urban health centres and rural health programs.

Private Ayurvedic Practice

BAMS graduates can open and run an Ayurvedic clinic, practise classical Ayurvedic treatments, panchakarma therapies and prescribe Ayurvedic formulations. Urban centres in NE India show growing demand for Ayurvedic wellness services alongside allopathic care.

MD (Ayurveda) Specialisation

After internship, BAMS graduates are eligible for MD in Ayurveda — a 3-year PG program covering classical Ayurvedic specialisations (Kayachikitsa, Shalya, Rasashastra, Panchakarma and more).

Research and Teaching

BAMS forms the base for Ayurvedic research in institutions like CCRAS (Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences). After MD, teaching positions are available at Ayurvedic medical colleges.
