MBBS
Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery
MBBS is India's primary undergraduate medical degree, awarding the right to practise modern (allopathic) medicine and surgery. The degree covers pre-clinical, para-clinical and clinical disciplines over nine semesters, followed by a compulsory rotating internship. An MBBS graduate is eligible for government medical service, private practice, and further specialisation through MD or MS.
BDS
Bachelor of Dental Surgery
BDS is India's primary undergraduate dental degree, awarding the right to practise dentistry. The five-year course covers basic sciences, pre-clinical dental training and clinical dentistry, followed by a one-year rotating internship. A BDS graduate is eligible for government dental service, private dental practice, and further specialisation through MDS.
BAMS
Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine & Surgery
BAMS is the undergraduate degree in Ayurvedic medicine, one of India's traditional medical systems. The 5.5-year program — including a 1-year internship — covers Ayurvedic classical sciences, modern biomedical subjects and clinical Ayurvedic practice. A BAMS graduate is eligible for government AYUSH service, private Ayurvedic practice and postgraduate specialisation through MD (Ayurveda).
MD / MS
Doctor of Medicine / Master of Surgery
MD (Doctor of Medicine) and MS (Master of Surgery) are the primary postgraduate medical degrees in India, qualifying an MBBS doctor in a clinical specialty. MD covers medical specialties (General Medicine, Paediatrics, Psychiatry, Dermatology, Radio-diagnosis and others); MS covers surgical specialties (General Surgery, Orthopaedics, Ophthalmology, ENT, Obstetrics & Gynaecology). The 3-year program involves clinical residency with progressive responsibility.
MDS
Master of Dental Surgery
MDS (Master of Dental Surgery) is the postgraduate dental degree qualifying a BDS graduate in a dental specialty. The 3-year program involves specialised clinical training with progressive responsibility. MDS specialisations include Orthodontics & Dentofacial Orthopaedics, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Prosthodontics, Periodontics, Endodontics, Oral Medicine & Radiology and Pedodontics.
