Cutoff ranks below are based on 2025 data. Official 2026 cutoffs will only be confirmed after MCC counselling closes — and because NTA cancelled and re-conducted the May 2026 NEET-UG exam following a paper-leak controversy (re-exam 21 June 2026, results expected ~20 July 2026), the whole 2026 counselling calendar is running later than the usual October close. Always verify with official notifications at mcc.nic.in.
The Nagaland MBBS Reality in 2026
Nagaland does not have a state government MBBS college. There are no seats to fill through state DME counselling. Every Nagaland student applying for MBBS in 2026 is competing on purely national terms — NEET-UG rank is the only card.
Route 1: All India Quota (AIQ) — Best Bet for Government Seats
AIQ gives Nagaland students access to the 15% AIQ seats at every government medical college in India. In NE India, RIMS Imphal (100% AIQ — 100 seats) and the AIQ seats at Assam, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram government colleges are all accessible. Across India, smaller government colleges in states like Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Rajasthan and Telangana often see lower AIQ cutoffs than NE colleges — Nagaland students should consider these.
| College | State | AIQ Seats | Approx. General Rank (2026 Est.) |
|---|---|---|---|
| RIMS Imphal | Manipur | 100 | 70,000 – 85,000 |
| AGMC Agartala | Tripura | 15 | 95,000 – 1,20,000 |
| TRIHMS Naharlagun | Arunachal Pradesh | 8 | 1,00,000 – 1,30,000 |
| SMCH Silchar (Assam) | Assam | 15 | 85,000 – 1,05,000 |
| Govt colleges (other states, smaller) | Various | Multiple | 1,20,000 – 2,50,000 |
Route 2: Management Quota in Open States
Nagaland students have the same access to management quota as students from any other state — domicile is not required. Karnataka, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra all offer management quota MBBS seats to any NEET-qualified candidate. This is the most commonly used route for Nagaland students who do not land an AIQ government seat.
Karnataka: Largest pool, FRC-regulated fees — roughly ₹15–₹35 lakh/year or more depending on college, and revised most years, so confirm the current figure with the official FRC order before relying on it. Scores of 430+ generally sufficient for management quota consideration.
Telangana: TSCHE management quota, FRC-regulated. Scores of 420+ viable.
Uttar Pradesh: DME UP fills management quota. Large college pool. Scores of 400–450 range workable.
Maharashtra: DMER Maharashtra institutional quota. FRC-regulated.
Rajasthan: Growing private MBBS market. FRC-regulated. Good option for moderate scores.
FRC Fees Are the Legal Maximum
Management quota fees must not exceed the FRC-approved amount for that college and year. Anyone asking for a donation or capitation fee above FRC fees is violating the law. Verify the FRC fee order directly from the state's Fee Regulatory Committee website before paying.
Route 3: NRI Quota
Nagaland has a significant diaspora in the Gulf countries, Southeast Asia and Western nations. If you have a parent, grandparent, sibling or spouse who is an NRI, NRI quota eligibility should be explored. NRI quota seats are outside the AIQ/management quota pool and typically have lower competition. Fees are higher than management quota but the eligibility bar is lower if the NRI relationship is valid.
Route 4: Deemed Universities
NMC-approved deemed universities have MBBS seats filled through MCC Deemed University counselling — a separate process from state management quota. Open to all candidates nationally. Fees are generally higher than government or FRC-regulated private colleges, but deemed universities often have strong infrastructure. Shortlist only NMC-approved institutions.
Preparing as a Nagaland Student — 2026 Action Plan
Note on 2026 timing
The 2026 NEET-UG cycle was disrupted by a paper-leak controversy — the original May exam was cancelled and re-conducted on 21 June 2026, with results expected only around 20 July 2026. MCC Round 1 is therefore expected to open around August 2026 rather than the usual early July. Confirm the live schedule at mcc.nic.in.
Register for MCC AIQ counselling the moment Round 1 opens (delayed to around August 2026 this year). Fill 50+ choices across NE states and other states.
Research management quota options now — identify 4 to 6 NMC-approved private colleges in Karnataka, Telangana and UP. Call their admissions offices and ask for the FRC fee schedule.
If NRI quota is relevant in your family, gather documents: NRI passport/OCI, relationship proof, bank statements showing overseas income.
Do not pay any agent who guarantees a specific seat — no one can guarantee a government seat and paying for management quota through unofficial channels risks losing both money and time.
