About NEIGRIHMS
NEIGRIHMS (North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences) in Shillong is a premier central government medical institution established specifically to serve the North-East region. Established in 1987 and funded directly by the Ministry of Health, NEIGRIHMS is a referral hospital and training institute for the entire NE region.
NEIGRIHMS MBBS admission is through NEET-UG, not INI-CET. Of the 50 MBBS seats, only 8 are open AIQ seats filled through MCC; the rest are reserved seats — 14 for Meghalaya, 10 for Nagaland and 18 as an "NE Open" category for candidates from any of the 8 NE states — filled via NEET-UG merit and, for the state-reserved seats, state government nomination/counselling rather than MCC. INI-CET (Institute of National Importance Combined Entrance Test) applies to NEIGRIHMS's MD/MS postgraduate admissions, not MBBS.
