Government MBBS in Mizoram — ZMC Aizawl
| College | City | Total MBBS | State Quota | AIQ | Key Note |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| ZMC Aizawl (Zoram Medical College) | Aizawl | 50 | 42 | 8 | State quota primarily for Mizo ST candidates |
Zoram Medical College (ZMC) in Aizawl is Mizoram's only government MBBS institution. It has 50 seats — 42 under state quota and 8 under AIQ. The state quota is predominantly reserved for candidates belonging to the Scheduled Tribes of Mizoram (primarily Mizo communities). Non-tribal Mizoram domicile holders have limited access to state quota seats.
Approximate Cutoff Ranks — ZMC Aizawl (2026 Est.)
| Route | Category | Approx. Rank |
|---|---|---|
| AIQ | General | 1,00,000 – 1,30,000 |
| AIQ | ST (central list) | 2,50,000 – 4,00,000 |
| State Quota | ST Mizoram | 2,00,000 – 6,00,000+ |
State Quota Eligibility
Mizoram state quota eligibility requires a Permanent Resident Certificate of Mizoram and, for most reserved seats, a Scheduled Tribe certificate for a Mizoram-notified tribe. Verify the exact domicile and category document requirements with DME Mizoram before the 2026 counselling notification.
AIQ Route for Mizoram Students
The 8 AIQ seats at ZMC are open to any NEET candidate nationally. Mizoram students should also fill AIQ choices for RIMS Imphal (100 seats, entirely AIQ), Assam government colleges, and AGMC Agartala — all accessible through MCC without domicile restriction.
Management Quota — Open State Options
For Mizoram students who do not land government seats through AIQ or state quota, management quota in open states is the primary alternative. Karnataka, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra do not require Mizoram domicile for management quota.
Karnataka: FRC-regulated management quota. Scores of 430+ typically qualify. Largest private MBBS pool in India.
Telangana: TSCHE management quota, FRC-regulated. Good infrastructure and accessible from NE India by air.
Uttar Pradesh: Large college pool, FRC-regulated. Scores of 400–430 may qualify at some colleges.
Deemed Universities: MCC-Deemed counselling, nationwide. Higher fees but no domicile restriction.
Mizo ST candidates — explore all-India ST quotas
Candidates with Mizoram Scheduled Tribe certificates may qualify for relaxed AIQ ST category ranks at government colleges across India — not just ZMC. An AIQ ST rank of 2,50,000 may secure a government MBBS seat in several states outside NE India. Check the MCC AIQ allotment data for ST category from previous years to identify accessible colleges.
2026 Counselling Action Plan
Note on 2026 timing
The 2026 NEET-UG exam cycle was disrupted by a paper-leak controversy — the original May exam was cancelled and re-conducted on 21 June 2026, with results expected only around 20 July 2026. MCC Round 1 is therefore likely to open around August 2026 rather than the usual early July. Confirm the live schedule at mcc.nic.in.
As soon as MCC Round 1 opens (delayed to around August 2026): Register for MCC AIQ counselling. Fill ZMC (8 AIQ seats), RIMS Imphal, and Assam government colleges in your choice list.
A few weeks after MCC Round 1: Register for DME Mizoram state quota counselling separately if you hold Mizoram PRC and ST certificate.
Parallel: Research management quota in Karnataka and Telangana. Verify FRC fee schedules from the respective state FRC orders.
Keep NRI quota in mind if you have a qualifying overseas family member — the NRI quota pool has less competition than management quota.
