MCC NEET UG 2026 Counselling Schedule and Deemed University MBBS Guide

MCC has not yet released the official NEET UG 2026 counselling schedule, but Round 1 registration is widely expected between late July and mid-August 2026. Here is the schedule tracker plus a full deemed university MBBS admission and fee guide.

Why Is the MCC Schedule Delayed This Year?

The NEET UG 2026 exam originally scheduled for 3 May was cancelled following paper-leak allegations and re-conducted on 21 June 2026. The re-NEET UG 2026 result was declared on 16 July 2026, roughly two months later than a typical cycle. Since MCC has historically opened Round 1 registration 34 to 37 days after the result in most recent years, that points to a likely window of early-to-mid August 2026 -- but this is a projection, not a confirmed date, until MCC's official bulletin is published.

What Does MCC Actually Counsel For?

MCC (Medical Counselling Committee) conducts admission for the 15% All India Quota (AIQ) seats in government medical colleges, plus 100% of seats in deemed universities, central universities, AIIMS, JIPMER, ESIC and AFMC institutions -- all through mcc.nic.in only. For the year, the National Medical Commission's seat matrix shows 1,36,939 total seats in the counselling pool, with 63,296 MBBS seats in government colleges and 73,643 in private colleges, including deemed universities.

What Is a Deemed University, and Why Does It Matter for NEET UG 2026 Candidates?

A deemed university MBBS seat has no state domicile requirement at all -- any NEET-qualified candidate from any state can take a seat at any deemed medical college in India, purely on merit and fee capacity, through MCC counselling. This makes it structurally different from government college AIQ seats, which are still allotted state-wise for 85% of capacity, and from most state counselling, which favours local-domicile candidates.

  • Roughly 58-59 NMC-approved deemed medical universities currently operate in India

  • Together they offer approximately 11,000-12,500 MBBS seats

  • Admission has historically been possible across a wide NEET score band -- from roughly 113 to 515 marks in recent cycles, depending on the specific college

  • All rounds -- Round 1, Round 2, Round 3 and Stray Vacancy -- run only through MCC, over roughly 80 days between August and November

Well-known deemed universities that regularly participate in MCC counselling include Kasturba Medical College (Manipal, two campuses), JSS Medical College (Mysuru), Dr. D.Y. Patil Medical College (Pune), Sri Ramachandra Medical College (Chennai), SRM Medical College (Chennai), and KAHER's colleges in Belagavi and Hubballi. This is not an exhaustive or ranked list -- check MCC's official seat matrix for the full set each round.

How Should I Budget for a Deemed University MBBS Seat?

Plan for Rs 10-30 lakh per year in tuition alone, with total 4.5-year course cost realistically running Rs 55 lakh to over Rs 1.5 crore depending on the institution. This is guidance for financial planning, not a quote from any specific college -- always confirm the exact notified fee for your target college before choice-filling.

A few things worth building into your budget conversation with your family:

  • Tuition is set by the institution, not a state regulator -- unlike government or state-quota private colleges, each deemed university notifies its own annual fee, which is why the range is wide

  • A Rs 2,00,000 refundable security deposit is required at MCC registration, in addition to tuition -- this is forfeited if you are allotted a seat in Round 2 or Round 3 and do not join, so choice-fill carefully rather than casually

  • NMC's April 2026 directive states colleges cannot charge fees for the compulsory internship year -- factor this into your total-cost estimate rather than assuming fees apply for a full extra year

  • Fee collection is now capped at exactly 4.5 years of tuition under recent NMC rules, which changes the total-cost math compared to older estimates that assumed 5+ years

  • Hostel, mess, and library charges typically add Rs 1-2 lakh per year on top of tuition -- ask for this figure separately when shortlisting

Worth a personalised comparison before choice-filling

If you are weighing a deemed seat against waiting for a lower-ranked government seat in a later round, that is a genuine trade-off between certainty and cost. A personalised comparison against your projected NEET rank, target state, and family budget is worth doing before Round 1 choice-filling opens, rather than after.

What Documents Should I Prepare Before MCC Registration Opens?

  • NEET UG 2026 admit card and scorecard

  • Class 10 and Class 12 marksheets and passing certificates

  • Category certificate (SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS), if applicable

  • Aadhaar card and a valid ID proof

  • Recent passport-size photograph

  • Funds ready for the Rs 2,00,000 MCC security deposit, in addition to any registration fee
