Domicile requirements for Mizoram state quota

Mizoram state quota at ZMC requires proof of domicile in Mizoram. Key documents: birth certificate showing Mizoram birth; Class 10/12 certificates from Mizoram schools; parents' employment in Mizoram state government or long-term residential proof; tribal/community certificate from competent authority (for ST categories — the majority of Mizoram's population belongs to Scheduled Tribe communities).

Mizoram's Inner Line Permit (ILP) system applies to non-indigenous residents. Domicile documentation for state quota medical admissions aligns with the state's residency framework. Check the annual Mizoram DME information brochure for the exact documents required.

Overview

Mizoram's first government medical college — Zoram Medical College (ZMC) in Falkawn, Aizawl district — was established in 2019, marking a transformative moment for medical education in the state. Prior to ZMC, Mizoram had no state government medical college, and Mizoram students had no state quota advantage.

ZMC offers 50 MBBS seats: 42 in the Mizoram state quota (Mizoram DME counselling) and 8 in AIQ. The college is still in its early years of development — as a new institution, it is building faculty, infrastructure and clinical training capacity. NMC recognition status should be verified annually.

The Mizoram state quota at ZMC is one of the most accessible in NE India — Mizoram's small population and small student pool competing for 42 seats creates NEET score thresholds that are among the most accessible in the region.

NE perspective

Like Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram students have an exceptionally accessible state quota due to the small eligible student population. ZMC's establishment in 2019 created the first state quota MBBS opportunity for Mizoram students — previously they competed entirely in AIQ or Management Quota.

The vast majority of Mizoram's population are Scheduled Tribe communities — giving Mizoram students both the state quota advantage (if AP criteria is met) AND the ST reservation benefit in AIQ counselling. This combination makes Mizoram one of the most strategically well-positioned NE states for government MBBS access relative to NEET score.
