Approximate AIQ Cutoff Ranks at Assam Colleges (2026 Est.)
AIQ seats are filled by MCC counselling — open to all NEET-UG candidates nationally regardless of domicile. Competition is therefore much higher than for state quota.

State Quota Cutoff Ranks at Assam Colleges (2026 Est.)
State quota seats at Assam government colleges are significantly more accessible to Assam domicile holders because only Assam residents compete. Cutoffs are typically 1.5 to 3 times more relaxed in rank terms compared to AIQ.

|---|---|---|---|
| GMCH Guwahati | 1,00,000 – 1,50,000 | 1,50,000 – 2,00,000 | 3,00,000 – 4,00,000 |
| AMC Dibrugarh | 1,80,000 – 2,50,000 | 2,50,000 – 3,20,000 | 4,50,000+ |
| SMCH Silchar | 1,70,000 – 2,30,000 | 2,30,000 – 3,00,000 | 4,00,000+ |

| TMCH Tezpur | 2,00,000 – 2,80,000 | 2,70,000 – 3,50,000 | 5,00,000+ |
Domicile Requirements for Assam State Quota
To qualify for Assam state quota seats in 2026, you must hold a valid Permanent Resident Certificate (PRC) or Scheduled Caste/Tribe certificate issued by competent Assam authorities. Study from Class 9 to 12 in a recognised Assam school is typically required, along with proof of continuous residence. Assam operates OBC-A and OBC-B reservation categories in addition to SC and ST quotas. Always verify the exact current eligibility criteria with DME Assam before the 2026 notification.
Options If You Miss Government Cutoff
Missing the GMCH or Assam state quota cutoff is not the end of MBBS admission. Assam domicile students have several legitimate pathways through management quota counselling in other states:
Karnataka — the largest private MBBS pool in India. Management quota seats are available at multiple NMC-approved private colleges. Fees are regulated by the Fee Regulatory Committee (FRC) of Karnataka.
Telangana — strong private MBBS infrastructure. TSCHE conducts management quota counselling. FRC-regulated fees.
Uttar Pradesh — large private college network. DME UP fills management quota seats. Fees vary by college.
Maharashtra — Institutional Quota counselling via DMER Maharashtra. FRC-regulated fees apply.
Deemed Universities nationally — NMC-approved deemed universities have a separate MCC-run counselling for 50% NRI quota and 50% institutional quota. Open to all candidates without domicile restriction.
Management Quota — FRC Fees Only
Management quota seats are allotted through the same centralized state counselling authority as government-quota seats (for example KEA in Karnataka) — not by applying directly to the college. Fees are regulated by the respective state Fee Regulatory Committee, and any amount above the FRC-approved fee is illegal. Register and fill choices only through the official counselling portal. Do not pay donations or any agent claiming to secure a seat outside counselling — they are illegal under Indian law.
Service Bond at Assam Government Colleges
Accepting a state-quota seat at any Assam government medical college requires signing a service bond. The bond amount is approximately ₹40–₹60 lakh and requires 3 years of government service in Assam after internship. RIMS Imphal AIQ seats do not carry an Assam state bond. If you are not prepared for the bond commitment, weigh this carefully — management quota private MBBS carries no such obligation.
Common Mistakes Assam Students Make
Not registering for MCC AIQ counselling because they assume their rank is too low — always register for both MCC and DME Assam simultaneously
Waiting for DME Assam notification before starting MCC registration — both run in parallel and have different deadlines
Assuming GMCH is the only option — AMC, SMCH, JMCH and FAAMC all offer excellent training at far more accessible state-quota cutoffs
Paying an agent to secure management quota seats in other states without independently verifying the college is NMC-approved and fees are FRC-regulated
Missing the domicile document deadline — start preparing your PRC and caste certificate (if applicable) immediately after NEET results in June
2026 Counselling Timeline for Assam Students
Timeline shifted by the NEET-UG 2026 re-exam
NTA cancelled the original 3 May 2026 NEET-UG exam after a paper-leak controversy and held a re-exam on 21 June 2026, with results expected only around 20 July 2026. The dates below reflect the normal counselling sequence but should all be read as running later than usual in 2026 — check mcc.nic.in and dme.assam.gov.in for the confirmed dates.
Results (delayed to ~July 2026): Prepare all documents in advance: PRC, Class 10/12 marksheets, NEET scorecard, category certificate.
Following results (expected August 2026 onward): MCC AIQ Round 1 registration opens at mcc.nic.in. Register even if your rank is moderate — AIQ seats at smaller Assam colleges may be within range.
A few weeks after MCC Round 1 (expected): DME Assam state quota counselling registration opens. Complete this separately from MCC registration.
Following registration: Allotment rounds for both MCC and DME Assam. Report to allotted college within prescribed window.
Final stage: MCC Mop-Up and Stray Vacancy rounds for remaining AIQ seats, likely running later into the year than in a typical cycle.
